Fungi possess the ability to devour and render toxic materials benign, whether in nature, after environmental catastrophes such as oil spills or within the psychology and neurochemistry of individuals stuck in bad thought patterns or behaviors. In this painting the mushrooms overtake the evil and dark forces depicted as a grotesque sinister skull and convert the dark energy into something positive and beautifully wild. With each board slide the evil is further degraded until it is completely erased through the physical poetry of skateboarding. I want the painting to operate on many levels, both for those who take into consideration these conceptual aspects of the painting and the healing potential of fungi and also just as a badass skateboard graphic consistent with the aesthetic of Creature skateboards.
